Sustainable finance and CSR expert Pauline Becquey becomes Managing Director of Finance for Tomorrow. Her appointment comes at a major turning point for the Paris financial center’s sustainable finance initiative.

The arrival of Pauline Becquey, gives new impetus to the Paris financial center’s green and sustainable finance initiative, launched in June 2017 within Paris EUROPLACE.

A graduate of Sciences Po Bordeaux in 2010, she has developed strong expertise in sustainable finance through her various experiences. As a consultant and then manager in the sustainable development team of a major audit and consulting firm (EY), she carried out numerous assignments in the financial sector. In particular, she audited the extra-financial and impact reporting of major French banks and the IFC (World Bank Group), supported the issuance of Green Bonds, contributed to the development of sectoral investment policies, assisted in the definition of sustainability strategies, and more. Her various assignments have also enabled her to gain an understanding of the CSR challenges facing non-financial companies.

As Sustainable Development Manager for the Fédération Française des Assurances (FFA), she provided operational support to insurers in their transformation towards sustainable finance. She was instrumental in setting up a monitoring system for the sector’s sustainable finance indicators, and coordinated Place de l’assurance’s work on taking climate risks into account in investment portfolios, defining ESG engagement and exclusion policies, and policies for phasing out coal. She is also co-author of the reference work ‘La RSE dans l’assurance’ (CSR in the insurance industry).

Her perfect command of regulatory issues and her in-depth knowledge of the Paris financial marketplace ecosystem are all assets she brings to the management of Finance for Tomorrow, which has experienced unprecedented growth since its creation.

At a time when the challenges of global warming and the preservation of our biodiversity are raising questions more than ever about the sustainability of our economies, Finance for Tomorrow today brings together more than 85 members representing the financial sector, almost three times as many as since its creation. Against the backdrop of the sustainable transformation of finance, the number of projects is multiplying: creation of the Groupe de Place on impact finance, launch of the Coalition of investors dedicated to the Just Transition, organization of the 4th edition of the Fintech Challenge and Climate Finance Day just before COP26.

Together with Thierry Déau, Chairman of Finance for Tomorrow, and the association’s Board of Directors, Pauline Becquey will be driving forward an ambitious roadmap to ensure that the Paris financial center continues to play a leading role in the now-competitive challenges of green and sustainable finance. To maintain its pioneering role, our ambition is to accelerate the movement and bring about the change of scale that is essential for a successful transition.

  • Continue to mobilize financial players and become a genuine center of shared resources in support of the transition and the competitiveness of financial players;
  • Develop academic research and promote French expertise;
  • Strengthen synergies between financial players and companies;
  • Raise awareness of sustainable finance among the general public and support schools and universities;
  • Make the Observatoire de la finance durable a global benchmark.

Governance

Pauline Becquey joins the 14 members of the Finance for Tomorrow Board, elected in May 2020 for a two-year term. Following the departure of Pierre Ducret, Climate Advisor at Caisse des Dépôts, Matthias Seewald, Member of the Executive Committee and Director of Investments and Allianz France, joins the Board.

Finance For Tomorrow has already come a long way, but we still need to accelerate our mobilization and change scale, to make sustainable finance a truly ‘mainstream’ practice. It is with great enthusiasm and conviction that I will devote myself to building, alongside our members, the finance of tomorrow. Pauline Becquey, Managing Director, Finance for Tomorrow

Expectations are high, the stakes are global and there are many changes to come, but I’m convinced that Pauline will rise to the challenges facing Finance for Tomorrow. She has the essential skills and resources to successfully carry out the change of scale that awaits us, and to continue to unite the Paris marketplace

Thierry Déau, Chairman, Finance for Tomorrow
